8 character intelligent LED dot matrix display with integrated user interface

The DSP004 is an 8-character alphanumeric LED dot matrix display module featuring double-sided PCB construction and red 5x7 LiteOn LED matrices. Each character measures 0.5 x 0.7 inches, with overall board dimensions of 6.0 x 2.6 inches and a weight of 2.1 ounces.

Powered by +5VDC, the board includes built-in protection against overvoltage, reverse polarity, and ESD. LED indicators show power and protection status. Communication is via +5V TTL/UART signals, and the board supports reset via button or I/O pin. Useful for panel instrumentation, educational products, clocks, lab equipment, and industrial controls.

A built-in configuration interface allows users to adjust baud rate, scroll speed, brightness, and character settings without writing code. Access is provided through USB and Serial Terminal Emulator software. The module includes an ambient light sensor for automatic brightness control and supports external PWM input.

Designed for panel mounting. Documentation and template files are available for panel design and installation. RoHS, FCC and CAN ICES-3(B) compliant. Assembled for enhanced reliability in accordance with IPC-A-610E Class 2.  Includes 1-year limited warranty and 30-day refund policy.

Unfamiliar with Virtual Com Ports? The Quick Start Guide has an informational section where you can learn about this powerful technology, used by both hobbyists and seasoned professionals.

HOW IT WORKS:

Access the No-Code menu to configure your Baud Rate, EOL Terminator, scroll and brightness controls, and to make custom characters. Accessing the menu is accomplished using a Serial Terminal Emulator with a USB Virtual Com Port adapter (not included) with signals connected in accordance with the quick start guide. The CONFIG switch on the back of the unit should be set to NORM position for menu access. Once connection has been established, the No Code menu may be used for custom-configuring the unit. Unit will run in your custom configuration when the CONFIG switch in the back of the unit is set to PROG position. Once configured, operation of the unit in your system/application only requires power, ground, and a single Tx line connected to the unit Rx input pin. Everything that can be set using the No Code menu, as well as custom character data, may also be programmed directly to the on-board non-volatile EEPROM. This is useful for high-volume applications where it becomes impractical to configure each unit with the menu. The user manual has complete information on this as well as code samples. In order to mount the unit in your panel you will need four mounting holes and a rectangular cutout. Complete dimensions and tolerances may be found in the User Manual. Additionally we have provided a template file which has the mounting holes and cutout provided; this file is meant to be used with the Front Panel Express Designer tool, which is freely available from Front Panel Express (https://www.frontpanelexpress.com).
